Mike and I flew to Shreveport, LA on Saturday, Feb. 23rd and drove south about an hour to Coushatta, LA. We stayed in a cabin at the Grand Bayou Resort on the Grand Bayou Reservoir. The lake was beautiful and we felt very fortunate to be able to take a walk on the grounds in a light jacket in the month of February! We were met at Fairview Baptist Church by Bro. J Cardinell, Associate Pastor, so we could get ready for the start of their annual Bible Conference on Sunday morning.Mike spoke four times on Sunday and then again on Monday night and Tuesday night. Fairview is a very friendly church and hospitable as well. There were several people who served refreshments on Sunday morning and a light dinner between the two talks on Sunday evening. Then they had supper ready for everyone on Monday and Tuesday eveinings.
We went to Natchitoches, LA on Monday with Pastor Matt Endris and his wife, Jana, for lunch. It is a very historic city as it is the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase Territory. It is where the 1989 movie Steel Magnolias was filmed. We enjoyed walking along the river until it started to rain and there was a tornado alert. Thankfully, there was no touch down of a tornado, but there was some excitement.
On Tuesday we had the unusual experience of going to a public school for Mike to speak in a History of Religions class. The students were very respectful and attentive. We wish that more schools had this kind of information available as an elective course. Mike talked about what makes Christianity different from every other religion.
We want to say thanks to all the staff and volunteers who worked so hard to make this conference a success. We pray that each person who attended will be encouraged in their faith and trust in God’s Word.
