On Thursday, Feb 7th, Mike and I flew to Duluth, MN and were met by Sarah and Al Kubat and their children for a quick, cold tour of downtown Duluth. It is on the largest fresh water lake in the world, Lake Superior. The bridge on the right is called the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge. It lifts all the way up to allow 1000 ft cargo carriers into the harbor. Here is a web site where you can see lots of pictures of the bridge.

On Friday Mike spoke at Lakeview Christian Academy in the morning and at a homeschool event in the afternoon at St John’s Free Lutheran Church in Duluth. Then at 5:30 he taught a 3 1/2 hour version of the Christian Teacher Training Course at St. John’s to more than 20 students. That was followed by the full day Basic Teacher Training Class on Sat.

Sunday morning Mike spoke at New Hope Bible Church in Duluth. As we were having a wonderful lunch it started to snow pretty hard. In just a few hours there was between 6 – 8 inches which is not unusual there, but the wind was blowing and they decided that we should cancel the evening talks at St. John’s Free Lutheran Church. That is only the 2nd time in 30 years that we have missed a lecture. We were disappointed but it was best to keep everyone safe. We enjoyed an evening with Roger and Sue DeLoach and some of their family. We stayed at their home and they treated us like family and fed us very well. Thank you so much to the entire DeLoach family for all of the work and especially Sarah DeLoach Kubat for making the event happen.

International Falls, MN – the “Icebox of the Nation”

On Monday morning Sarah and Al Kubat drove us 3 hours north to International Falls, MN. It is on the border of Canada and is called the “Ice Box of the Nation” by some. They certainly do a great job of clearing the roads after a snow storm so we had no problems getting there. Mike spoke at First Baptist Church to a packed house on Monday evening. Pastor Ted Clarke of 1st Baptist and Pastor Cory Rintala of Northwoods Bible Church teamed up to promote the event to everyone in the area. We had several families from Canada make the trip over. We hope to return to International Falls someday when the weather is a bit better.
